Moab, Interbike, and CYCLOCROSS!
We packed our bags with bike shoes, pedals and our helmets for a few days off in the desert. We flew west in search of adventurous bike rides and new products for 2010.
We spent the first two days in Moab, UT. Day one included the long and fast Whole Enchilada Trail. Highlights of this trail must include a 11,200 foot starting point, 7000 feet of descent, a nearly broken femur, stampede of cows, four flats (3 in one mile), high-speed thrills, and over six hours in the saddle! Day two we rode the very famous Slickrock Trail for which Moab is known. It was a great day consisting of very steep climbs, unreal traction, and a 50 MPH descent back to the house.
Our next stop was Interbike, the annual bicycle trade show in Las Vegas. We checked out products from over 700 exhibitors and found some neat items that will be sure to show in in our shops in 2010. Watch for new BMX bikes, powerful lights and many other new and cool items.
Cyclocross! What is it?
"Cyclo-cross (sometimes cyclocross, CX, CCX, cyclo-X or 'cross') is a form of bicycle racing. Races take place typically in the autumn and winter (the international or "World Cup" season is September-January), and consists of many laps of a short (2.5–3.5 km or 1.5–2 mile) course featuring pavement, wooded trails, grass, steep hills and obstacles requiring the rider to quickly dismount, carry the bike whilst navigating the obstruction and remount in one motion. Races for senior categories are generally between 30 minutes and an hour long, with the distance varying depending on the ground conditions."
The Cycle and Fitness guys have come to love the sport of CX. We highly endorse a local series called KISSCROSS. Check out the link, grab a bike (mtb is fine), and meet us at one of the races. Call or email Chris if you have any CX related questions.
